Kids & Children
Your child's nervous system is developing fast. What we do now shapes how they grow
Kids fall over, they sit at desks, they stare at screens, they carry heavy bags, they push their bodies hard through sport. And for the most part, they bounce back quickly. But sometimes the things we assume they'll grow out of, the headaches, the growing pains, the bedwetting, the behavioural struggles, have a physical root cause that's worth addressing properly.
Chiropractic care for children isn't about treating symptoms. It's about making sure the nervous system is working well so everything else can too.
Why Kids Need Chiropractic Care
They don't always say when something's wrong. Children's bodies are remarkably resilient, but that resilience can mask problems that are building quietly. Importantly, pain receptors aren't fully developed in children, so they often don't feel the full extent of what's going on. Rather than resolving issues, children's highly plastic nervous systems adapt and create compensations around them. These shortcuts can affect development and health in ways that aren't always obvious until much later.
The earlier we assess a child's spine and nervous system, the more we can do. The patterns that cause problems for adults at 40 often start in childhood, not to alarm, but to empower. Getting your child checked is one of the best investments you can make in their long-term health.
"I love seeing kids under care because the changes can be remarkable, and fast. A child's nervous system is so responsive. When we remove the interference, the body does the rest." - Dr Kate Anderson
Conditions We Commonly See In Children & Teens
Growing Pains
Aching legs at night, soreness after activity, or general musculoskeletal discomfort during growth spurts are often dismissed as part of growing up. But when the spine and pelvis aren't moving well, growing bodies bear more stress than they should. Chiropractic care helps ensure the framework is working as it should while your child grows.
Bedwetting
Bedwetting beyond the expected age can be frustrating and embarrassing for children and families alike. The nerves that control bladder function run through the lower spine, and when there's interference in that area, the brain and bladder don't communicate as clearly as they should. For some children, addressing spinal function makes a significant difference.
Posture and tech neck
We're seeing children as young as seven with the kind of neck and upper back tension that used to be reserved for adults in desk jobs. Screens, heavy school bags, and prolonged sitting are loading young spines in ways they weren't designed for. Left unaddressed, these postural patterns become structural, and much harder to shift in adulthood.
Postural issues, knock knees, in-toeing, and gait concerns
Feet that turn in, knock knees, or uneven gait patterns aren't always just cosmetic, they often reflect imbalances in the spine and pelvis that are worth assessing. Early identification gives us the best opportunity to support healthy structural development.
Headaches
Recurring headaches in children are common, but they're not normal. Most childhood headaches that don't have a medical cause originate from tension and restriction in the upper cervical spine. Identifying and addressing that source, rather than just managing the headache, is where chiropractic care can genuinely help.
Development & Milestones
When a child's nervous system is under stress, it can show up in subtle ways, slower motor development, difficulty with coordination, trouble concentrating, or sensory sensitivities. As part of our general assessment, we can also check for retained primitive reflexes, which, when unintegrated, can place ongoing stress on the nervous system and affect development and behaviour.
Behavioural and sleep issues
A dysregulated nervous system is often a dysregulated child. When the body is under physical stress, it affects mood, behaviour, sleep, and the ability to self-regulate. Parents sometimes notice their children becoming calmer, sleeping better, and managing emotions more easily after starting chiropractic care, not because we've treated behaviour, but because we've supported the nervous system that underlies it.
Sports injuries and performance
Active kids put a lot of demand on their bodies. Chiropractic care helps young athletes recover from the bumps and strains that come with sport, and supports optimal biomechanics and nervous system function so they can perform at their best.
Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis is most likely to develop during periods of rapid growth, typically between the ages of 10 and 15. Early detection matters enormously. Our on-site X-ray facility means we can assess spinal curves clearly and accurately, and give you a clear picture of what we're dealing with and what options exist.
Signs it might be worth getting your child checked
- Recurring headaches or neck pain
- Bedwetting beyond the age when it would normally resolve
- One shoulder or hip noticeably higher than the other
- Complaints of leg pain or soreness, especially at night
- Difficulty sitting still, concentrating, or self-regulating
- Poor posture, in-toeing, knock knees, or uneven gait
- Difficulty with developmental milestones or coordination
- A history of falls, sports knocks, or birth stress that was never assessed
- You simply want to know their nervous system is working well, that's reason enough
What to expect at your Child's first appointment
Your child's first visit runs for around 45 to 60 minutes. We take a thorough history, including pregnancy, birth, and developmental milestones. We'll then assess their spine, nervous system, and posture, and run an INSiGHT nerve scan.
If X-rays are clinically indicated, particularly for scoliosis screening or to assess structural concerns. We can take those on-site. Our report of findings at a second appointment walks you through everything we found and what we recommend, clearly and without jargon.
Bring your child fed and comfortable. If they're nervous, let us know. We're very used to kids of all ages and temperaments, and we'll take it at their pace.
